SEOUL, Oct. 25 (Yonhap) -- South Korean Culture Minister Yoo In-chon expressed deep sorrow at the passing of actress Kim Soo-mi on Friday.

He remarked, "She was not just a glamorous star but someone who brought warmth and humor, like family. The grief feels even more profound... This loss feels more like losing a family member than a star. We are grateful for the many paths Kim Soo-mi paved for younger actors, and we deeply mourn her passing."

Yoo and Kim shared the screen for over two decades in the MBC rural drama Country Diaries (1980–2002). Kim portrayed the beloved character 'Il-yong's Mother,' while Yoo played Yong-shik, the second son of Chairman Kim (portrayed by Choi Bul-am). The two recently reconnected in March on the variety show The Chairman's People, which brought together the original cast of Country Diaries.

In a phone call on the program, Yoo responded to actor Kim Yong-gun’s invitation by saying, "It feels like I should finish my term before joining," but then warmly added, "Please bring the Country Diaries family together."
