SEOUL, Jan. 3 (Yonhap) – Gariwangsan cable car in Jeongseon-gun has begun its official operation on Tuesday.

The first passengers were eight people, including children, the disabled, multicultural families, and the elderly.

Passengers rode cable car from Alpine Plaza Sookam Station in Bukpyeong-myeon to Gariwangsan Station, which is 1,381m above sea level, in 20 minutes.

They got off the cable car and enjoyed the wonderful view of Gariwangsan, which is called Byeokparyeong, because the mountain looked like a blue wave.

One of the first children passengers, Jeon Ha-eun, said, "It was cold but amazing and fun to be able to climb the high Gariwangsan with my mom by cable car."

Prior to its official operation, Jeongseon-gun has conducted a pilot operation on 8,000 county residents for a month from Dec. 1, 2022.

Gariwangsan cable car has used the Gariwangsan gondola facility, an alpine stadium at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, for local tourism.

For this, Jeongseon-gun has installed evacuation facilities, toilets, and ecological trails at the top of Habong Peak of Gariwangsan.

Management office used during the Olympics has been remodeled into convenience facilities for cable car users such as ticket offices, agricultural product sales offices, and rest areas.

The operating hours of the Gariwangsan cable car are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, and the boarding deadline is 4 p.m.

It is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays.

The fare is 10,000 won for adults and 6,000 won for children.
