National Gugak Center to establish online Gugak dictionary

SEOUL, Dec. 1 (Yonhap) -- Compiling Korea's traditional music and dance moves, online dictionary full of music, photos, latest performance videos has been established.

National Gugak Center has created Gugak dictionary on their webpage (www.gugak.go.kr/ency) and revealed it to the public on Thursday.

The dictionary, which is unveiled as the first trial, has 419 entries related to court and art music and dances. Headwords related to folklore, Gugak, people, multi-language, etc. are to be added annually.

Online Gugak dictionary of National Gugak Center has been including latest information based on research results, while it has been a dictionary by individual researchers.

The dictionary covers wide range of information including music and video related to dance and data of photos and videos. The best feature of the dictionary is being able to watch the trend of the times audio visually.

Korean musical instruments are also designed into 3D images, allowing users to see the details of the instruments in various angles.

For the pre-production, 50 expert scholars in Gugak field participated.

National Gugak Center is also preparing various on-site experience events to promote the Gugak dictionary.

At the special exhibition room inside the Center, Gugak dictionary experiencing center was prepared and "Gugak Quiz," "3 photo cut with Gugak dictionary characters," etc. took place. Experiencing section as well as special lecture related to court music and dance will be provided.

Kim Yeong-un, the head of the National Gugak Center, said, "We hope Gugak dictionary raise people's understanding of Gugak, and becomes an useful tool to inform traditional cultures and create new tradition."
