SEOUL, Oct. 7 (Yonhap) -- The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced Thursday that it will hold "Hanbok Culture Week 2021" with Korea Craft & Design Foundation's Hanbok Advancement Center between Oct. 11-17 under the theme "Hanbok suits your life."
Since 2018, the Hanbok Culture Week festival has presented a variety of Hanbok-related programs, exhibitions, and fashion shows with local governments every third week of October.
This year, however, the Hanbok Culture Week was held during both spring and autumn as last year's participating local governments requested a postponement of the event in October.
In order to safely proceed the event amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Hanbok Culture Week has reduced the number of offline programs but instead expanded into a virtual space (Metaverse). Additionally, various events have been organized to help people enjoy hanbok culture worldwide.
Director Lee Jin-hee, who is well-known for designing costumes for Korean historical dramas and movies, has organized several hanbok exhibitions including the "Hanbok Garden," and "Hanbok Love."
A total of eleven local governments, including Busan, Asan, Namwon, Jeonju, Iksan, Gokseong, Sangju, Gyeongju, Jinju, Miryang, and Jongno-gu, Seoul, will participate in the Hanbok Culture Week this fall. There has been four additional regions compared to the spring event.
The local governments will be welcoming participants through online events and more information on the Hanbok Culture Week 2021, such as the schedule of local events, can be found on the official website (hanbokweek.com).
In addition, in Indonesia, which is considered one of the top drivers of the Korean Wave, or "hallyu," out of the countries in Southeast Asia, an online hanbok fashion show will be held in October to showcase the harmony between Hanbok and Indonesia's traditional clothing, "Batik."
The Embassy of South Korea, Stockholm, Korean Culture Centre UK, La Rochelle Sejong Institute, and other organizations will also provide Hanbok content experiences to promote the charm of Hanbok.
