SEOUL, April 11 (Yonhap) -- K-pop girl group NewJeans, who recently declared a temporary hiatus amid a dispute over their exclusive contract, shared their emotional state with fans, expressing that they are drawing strength from their supporters during this challenging period.

In a message posted to social media on Friday, the group said, “We’re going through a tough time right now, but we gain the most strength when communicating with Bunnies (the name of their fanbase). The letters we’ve received from Bunnies have truly been a source of great comfort.”

They added, “We’re doing our best to be people that Bunnies can be proud of.”

The post was shared via a newly created account under the name “mhdhh_friends” — a combination of the initials of members Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein, and the word “friends,” instead of using their previous solo activity label “NJZ,” drawing further attention.

NewJeans had previously declared their intent to terminate their exclusive contracts with their agency ADOR in October of last year. However, a local court last month granted ADOR’s request for an injunction to maintain its contractual rights, effectively blocking the members from engaging in independent activities without the agency’s consent until a verdict is reached in the main lawsuit.

Following the ruling, NewJeans announced on March 24 that they would be halting group activities for the time being.

Despite the legal setback, the group wrote, “Bunnies have been so worried about us, but we don’t feel troubled at all when we think about the fact that we can meet Bunnies again anytime. A time will come when we can all spend happy moments together.”

The message ended with a heartfelt note to fans: “We love you, Bunnies.”

NewJeans has filed an objection to the court’s ruling on the injunction. A closed-door hearing was held on the 9th, and if the objection is dismissed, the members are expected to appeal the decision.
