SEOUL, March 14 (Yonhap) -- The memorial service for late singer Wheesung, who passed away on Monday, was set up on Friday at Samsung Medical Center in Gangnam, Seoul.

From 11 a.m., the solemn atmosphere at the venue reflected the deep sorrow of his family, fellow artists, and fans who arrived to pay their final respects.

At the entrance, a banner read, “Artist Wheesung will forever remain a star in our hearts.” His portrait featured him smiling brightly against a purple backdrop.

Singer KCM, who had been scheduled to perform alongside Wheesung in a joint concert on March 15, arrived with a somber expression. The event was canceled following Wheesung’s passing. Fellow singer Kim Tae-woo and the girl group ICHILLIN, who are under the same agency, Tajo Entertainment, also attended.

Many artists sent floral tributes in his honor, including IU, Naul, Zico, Park Jung-hyun, Jung Joon-il, TWICE, and Baby V.O.X. BTS, through their agency HYBE’s BigHit Music CEO Shin Seon-jeong, along with singers Lee Hyun and TXT, also sent condolence wreaths.

According to police and his agency, Wheesung was found deceased in an apartment in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, on March 10.

Debuting in 2002 with Can’t We?, Wheesung became a leading figure in the R&B wave of the 2000s with hits such as With Me, Incurable Disease, Even Thought of Marriage, and Insomnia. Beyond his own music, he showcased his talent as a lyricist and producer, penning lyrics for major hits like Younha’s Password 486 and Ailee’s Heaven throughout the 2000s and 2010s.

His family will hold a funeral ceremony on March 16 before the burial at Gwangneung Memorial Park.
