SEOUL, Apr. 17 (Yonhap) -- Gimhae International Airport’s international routes will be expanded from next month with the release of social distancing and the daily routine slowly coming back.
According to Busan City on the 17th, Gimhae International Airport currently operates routes from Busan to Qingdao (once a week), Saipan (four times a week), and Guam (four times a week).
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, along with the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, has approved 5 additional routes (Fukuoka, Cebu, Da Nang, and Bangkok.)
Additional routes from Gimhae International Airport are Busan to Fukuoka (twice a week), Cebu (twice a week), Da Nang (four times a week), Bangkok (four times a week), and Singapore (twice a week).
Subsequently, from May, the flights from Gimhae International Airport will be expanded to 8 routes.
The schedule for the additional routes that has been approved will be later announced by the respective airlines after their preparation.
Earlier, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced a goal in line with the step-by-step recovery process of the Incheon Airport and the regional airports, to recover the international flights to 50% of before the outbreak of COVID-19.
“The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency has limited the passengers in regional airports to those who has been vaccinated. However, beginning from May, all South Koreans will be able to use the plane regardless of the status of their vaccination” said Busan city. “Thus, it is expected that the customers for flights mostly preferred by family tourists will also improve.”
