SEOUL, April 20 (Yonhap) -- Jin of K-pop supergroup BTS made a surprise appearance at Coldplay’s concert in South Korea on Saturday, sharing the stage with the British rock band in a special joint performance.
According to the music industry, Jin joined Coldplay on the third night of their concert held at Goyang Stadium just outside of Seoul, performing his solo debut single “The Astronaut” as well as “My Universe,” a collaborative track between BTS and Coldplay.
Seated beside Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, Jin sang “The Astronaut” to the accompaniment of Martin’s keyboard. The two artists showcased their camaraderie on stage, with Jin leaning on Martin’s shoulder and Martin putting his arm around Jin in a heartfelt moment before an audience of about 50,000 fans.
The duo continued the emotional set with “My Universe,” during which Jin and Martin held hands and bowed deeply to the crowd in a show of mutual respect and gratitude.
BTS and Coldplay have maintained a close relationship since releasing “My Universe,” which topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart and was featured in a joint performance at the American Music Awards.
Martin’s connection with Jin runs especially deep, as he participated in composing, writing, and playing instruments for “The Astronaut.” In October 2022, just before beginning his mandatory military service, Jin traveled to Buenos Aires to perform the song live with Coldplay during their concert in Argentina.
