SEOUL, Oct. 21 (Yonhap) -- Jeju Island is launching a global tour marketing as Korea is in the verge of converting into “with COVID-19” step by step.
Using the Jeju contents mentioned in “Squid Game,” Korea’s undeniable mash-hit original series of the world on Netflix, the island has kicked into vigorous promotional projects to appeal to the potential tourists over the world as “Jeju where people most want to go,” Jeju officials announced Thursday.
In “Squid Game,” Player 067 Kang Sae-byeok (Jung Ho-yeon), a North Korean defector said that she really wanted to visit “Jeju Island” with her younger brother and mother.
The foreign press paid attention to “Jeju Island” as well. America’s weekly news magazine “Newsweek” has recently spotlighted the island saying “it’s no surprise why Sae-byeok and other would put the fascinating island on their travel bucket list,” and mentioned the island’s nickname, “Hawaii of South Korea.”
The island and the International Marketing Office have set up a voting event of where Player 067 of ‘Squid Game’ would want to go and an online dalgona game.
Also they are planning to promote other K-drama·K-pop filming sets or K-food to look into Jeju in Hallyu and by doing so they aim for the world’s gen MZ, the leaders of today’s travel trend.
According to the spread of untact·eco-friendly travel trend due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Jeju has consistently been discovering and promoting comfortable·safe·healing wellness-certified tour spots as well.
Furthermore the island will collaborate with eco-friendly social firms to add “spread responsible tourism”- marketing strategy to contribute to constructing sustainable tour·resource recycling society.
To restore their international tour market, they are also planning to adopt “Travel Bubble” between safe countries depending on the country’s recovery phase from COVID-19, restart allowing no-visa entrance and expand the support for direct routes·charterd planes·cruises’ accessibility.
“To retrieve trust for Jeju tourism and to restore our tour market, we are pushing policy measure for ‘zero-complaint Jeju tour.’ According to the step-by-step return to our normal lives, we, Jeju, will definitely become a global clean safe tour spot,” said an official from Jeju.
