SEOUL, September 21 (Yonhap) -- Se-yeon from the movie "Life is Beautiful" resembles our mom.
She takes the bus even after answering "okay" to her husband telling her to take the taxi because she is late and can't easily afford pretty clothes.
During the interview Yeom Jung-ah had on Wednesday at a cafe in Jongno-gu, Seoul, she said, "As a same woman, I tear up and feel bad whenever I see Se-yeon."
"As a mother and a wife, there were quite many parts that I could relate to. When I read the scenario, I became so immersed in the character Se-yeon that I couldn't help but feel sorry for her. I played Se-yeon, thinking that she was a woman who had to make a pretty living with the money her husband gave, raise her children well, and naturally take care of her husband for her whole life."
Se-yeon, who always put her husband and children ahead of her, writes a bucket list, looking back on her life after being diagnosed with terminal illness. Se-yeon and her husband, Jin-bong (played by Ryu Seung-ryong), go on a journey to look for Se-yeon's first love.
Yeom Jung-ah said, "I totally understand her," and continued, "When I think about the most beautiful moment of my life and the time when I was being myself, I think I myself would have also thought, 'I want to see that person (first love) in person."
Yeom Jung-ah, who watched the movie four times, expressed her special affection towards the movie, "I've been watching this movie a lot" and continued, "The combination of my favorite story and music is so fun. I've waited such a long time for the movie to be released.
The more I watch, the more I cry. Probably because I am expecting (the next scene). New lines keep coming up and I keep falling in love with different songs. It’s also nice to be able to feel both sadness and joy, and I think the story line gets a lot more enriched with the help of music."
The movie "Life is Beautiful" is Korea's first jukebox musical (musical made with popular music) movie. Yeom Jung-ah, who dreamed of starring in a musical film for a long time, said, "I had a hard time because I kept forgetting the dance and the lyrics when the shooting started despite the morning practices."
"When I was filming, I thought that I would never do any musical movies, but after watching the completed movie, I thought I could do it again," she said. "However, I think I would need more practice as I'm getting older."
When Yeom Jung-ah talked about Ryu Seung-ryong, who starred as her husband, she praised him, saying, "I thought what would have happened if Ryu Seung-ryong didn't play for the character," adding, "I could laugh because it was actor Ryu Seung-ryong, even though he is a husband who does a lot of hateful behaviors."
While in the process of looking for her first love, Se-yeon in the movie thinks about the times when she met Jin-bong for the first time, like destiny, the beginning of their relationship, which was happy, the breakup, which made them cry, and their lovely newlywed period. Yeom Jung-ah said, "When I think about my life, I think I'm having my heyday."
