SEOUL, Nov. 26 (Yonhap) -- K-pop star PSY faced a temporary seizure of his villa in Hannam-dong due to unpaid fines related to unauthorized construction but has since resolved the issue, his agency revealed.

According to industry reports on November 26, PSY’s villa in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, was seized by local authorities in May this year after he failed to pay a penalty imposed for unauthorized structural modifications and changes in use of the building. The seizure was lifted last month after PSY paid the fine in full.

PSY’s agency, P Nation, clarified, “The unpaid fine was due to a delay in confirming the notice, and the amount has now been fully settled.”

PSY claimed that he was unaware of any illegal modifications when he acquired the villa.

His agency stated, “PSY purchased the property directly from the original builder in 2007 and has lived there for over 17 years.”

It was only after a complaint was filed that PSY became aware of unauthorized alterations made during the initial construction phase.

To address the issue, PSY and other villa residents are jointly coordinating with a construction company to rectify the illegal modifications. The agency added, “Preparations are underway to carry out corrective construction work.”

The incident highlights a common issue of responsibility for pre-existing building violations, with PSY taking steps to resolve the matter amicably.
