SEOUL, May 13 (Yonhap) -- The song “Reach for You” by singer 10CM, whose real name is Kwon Jung-yeol, has soared to the top of the music charts, boosted by a viral online challenge trend.

According to 10CM’s agency CAM and Melon on Tuesday, the song—originally released in March—claimed the No. 1 spot on both Melon’s “Top 100” and the “Hot 100” chart for new releases as of that morning.

“Reach for You” is the theme song from the Japanese anime of the same name. While 10CM sang the theme during the anime’s Korean broadcast in 2010, the track was never officially released—until now. Responding to fan requests, the song was finally released 15 years later, gradually climbing the charts through word of mouth.

The song’s popularity was further amplified by a wave of cover challenges, featuring performances by Yoon Do-hyun, SEVENTEEN’s DK, and IVE’s Rei, who sang the song alongside bands.

One especially viral video featured entertainer Joo Woo-jae singing with 10CM’s guitar accompaniment. The clip has garnered over 7 million views on YouTube. The two also performed the song together on the May 10 episode of MBC’s Show! Music Core.

Building on the momentum of topping the charts, 10CM is planning a range of activities to connect with fans. He will kick off with a small theater concert titled 4.99999999 next month, release his 5th full-length album in July, and hold a solo concert titled 5.0 at SK Olympic Handball Gymnasium in August.
