SEOUL, July 21 (Yonhap) -- The 16th Danyang Garlic Festival, an agricultural festival representing Danyang county, North Chungcheong province, opens on July 22.
The festival, hosted by the Danyang Garlic Festival Committee and co-organized by Nonghyp's Danyang county branch and the Danyang Garlic Producers Council, will be held in Danyang Eco Sports Park until July 24.
45 tons of garlic produced by 50 farms will be sold at a lower price than the market, and abundant exhibitions and experience events will be held in this festival.
On the first day, the festival kicks off with a celebration stage by popular singers such as Jinseong and Na Mi Ae.
On the next day, live commerce of agricultural products, band performances, magic shows, and a garlic chimaek (chicken and beer) concert will be held by Kim Beom-ryong and Kang Hye-yeon.
On the last day of the festival, various programs including improvised events for visitors and music performances will be held.
In addition to the market for direct sales of agricultural products, new garlic varieties and processed products will be displayed, with the garlic chicken sales zone being operated for three days.
"Danyang garlic, South Korea's geographical indication No.29 recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, is not only hard and strong, but has excellent flavor, which is why it receives so much love from the consumers," said an official from the county. "I hope that this festival, which is being held after three years will be an opportunity for Danyang garlic to receive more love."
Danyang Garlic won the National Brand Grand Prize for the 7th consecutive year in the agricultural specialty brand category at the "2022 National Brand Awards Ceremony" held in May.
Nonghyup purchased 124 tons of Danyang garlic by village from July 18.
