SEOUL, Jan. 9 (Yonhap) -- The most loved song on South Korea's major music platform Melon last year was TWS’s debut track "Plot Twist."
According to Melon’s 2024 annual chart released on Thursday, the song, which gained significant popularity on short-form platforms, topped the year-end chart.
In second place was (G)I-DLE's "Fate," despite not being the title track, and in third place was aespa’s hit "Supernova," which set a record with 15 consecutive weeks at No.1 on the weekly chart.
IU's hit "Love Wins All" ranked fourth.
Other notable chart performances included ILLIT’s debut song "Magnetic" at No.8, NewJeans' "How Sweet" at No.15, and IVE's "I AM" at No.21, continuing the strong presence of girl groups.
Melon noted, "In addition to ‘Supernova,’ aespa also made a significant impact by charting multiple hits like ‘Drama,’ ‘Armageddon,’ and ‘Spicy,’ solidifying their position as a leading girl group. Another top 4th-gen girl group, NewJeans, placed 8 songs in the top 100 of the annual chart."
Last year, the band wave led by DAY6 was also prominent. DAY6 made a comeback with the chart-topping tracks "One Page" (No.5) and "You Were Beautiful" (No.7), along with their recent releases "Welcome to the Show" and "HAPPY" making it to the annual chart.
The band QWER, a girl band, recorded No.10 with "T.B.H" and No.91 with "My Name is Malguem." Eclipse’s "Sudden Shower," featured in the drama "Lovely Runner," ranked No.14.
Bibi's "Bam Yang Gang," which made waves in the first half of the year, reached No.16, and BLACKPINK's Rose’s collaboration with pop star Bruno Mars, "APT." released in October, ranked No.46, showing her strong popularity.
In the overseas annual chart, Charlie Puth’s "I Don’t Think That I Like Her," which built a solid fan base in Korea, secured the No.1 spot for two consecutive years. NewJeans' Japanese debut song "Supernatural" ranked No.2, and Seiko Matsuda’s "Aoi Sangosho" (Blue Coral Reef), which Hani performed at a fan meeting at Tokyo Dome, made an appearance at No.95.
Taylor Swift’s "Cruel Summer" claimed No.6, thanks to the impact of her world tour.
