SEOUL, Nov. 15 (Yonhap) -- A fomer Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) employee accused of trying to sell hat of BTS member Jungkook has been handed over to the prosecution.
Seoul Seocho Police Station has announced on Tuesday that they have sent MOFA passport and former MOFA employee without detention. Police has also sent the returned hat to the prosecutor.
Former employee, on Oct. 17, uploaded a post explaining that the singer had left the hat while visiting to get a passport and tire to sell it at 10,000,000 won.
After the post became an issue, the seller deleted the post and turned himself in at a police station in Yongin. The case has then been assigned to Soeul Seocho Police Station, which has jurisdiction over Secho District where the Passport Division is located.
He also explained that he had already quit working for the MOFA while admitting to all his allegations during a police investigation.
The station has previously requested BTS' agency to confirm that the hat belongs to Jungkook, and the agency has verified that he had lost his hat at the ministry in the beginning of this month.
The station was to apply the embezzlement of lost articles or an embezzlement related to business but decided on the embezzlement after a legal review
Police official said, "We decided it is appropriate to punish him for regular embezzlement, not embezzlement related to business considering that employee had a position of assistant level, not administrative."
