SEOUL, August 23 (Yonhap) -- Iksan city, North Jeolla Province, announced on Tuesday that it will be presenting the "2022 Iksan World Heritage Media Art Festa" for a month from September 3 till October 3.
The Festa, co-hosted by the Cultural Heritage Administration and North Jeolla Province, will be held under the theme of "The Light of Baekje, Building Hope" with the concept of personal hope and national well-being and peace, which is the meaning of Mireuksa temple, the largest temple in Baekje.
The city planned this Festa as a "place of intuitive world heritage experience" by using visual and digital technology rather than a direct explanation of history as much as it is a convergence media art that combines cultural heritage, nature, and information and communication technology (ICT).
With the wide Mireuksaji Temple in the background, a total of 16 colorful programs including the media facade and 300 drone lights will be filled to show the essence of Iksan Bay.
To begin with, during the day, one will be able to fully enjoy the natural scenery of Mireuksaji Temple, and at night, the overwhelming media art show will always be presented with a media facade incorporating the latest technology while preserving the scenery of cultural heritage.
With the high-resolution projector and the moving screen, it provides an opportunity to digitally experience the splendid signature media facade, "The Land of Towers, Build Hope," the outstanding universal value of the World Heritage site.
Additionally, 25 professional dancers will be performing a realistic media performance "The Land of Mireuk, a Thousand Years of Citizens" along with dynamic group dances.
The media performance is scheduled to be performed 10 times, twice every Saturday during the event period, and can also be viewed on weekdays by the Extended Reality (XR).
On September 3, the opening day, and September 11, the day of Chuseok, a light show of 300 drones will beautifully fill up the night sky of Mireuksa Temple along with the media facade.
As a special opening performance, a dynamic group dance by the Kukkiwon Taekwondo Team will be performed.
In addition, various outdoor light and sculpture art works, citizen participation-type installation art, and environment-friendly experience events will be held around the Mireuksaji Temple.
"A new field of visual history and digital content will be open by combing the images of the city, as a leading high-tech city with holograms, and as the ancient city of Baekje," Mayor Chung Heon-yool of Iksan said. "The exhibition of various works will be of great help to revitalize nighttime tourism that considers cultural heritage and nature, along with the promotion of world heritage."
