SEOUL, August 31 (Yonhap) -- “Although it’s my first time going on a tour in South Korea, I am more than excited to meet my fans in Korea. Especially, since I haven’t been to Busan and Cheolwon county in Gangwon province.”
First South Korean cellist to have won the globally recognized Queen Elizabeth competition in June, Choi Ha-young will be hosting a domestic tour in South Korea.
According to the concert planning agency SBU on Wednesday, cellist Choi Ha-young will kick off her domestic tour on September 14 starting in Busan, Seoul, Jeju, Gwangju, and more throughout seven different cities until September 21. Chinese cellist Yibai Chen who took second place on the Queen Elizabeth competition will perform with Choi Ha-young during the performance held in between August 14 to August 18, which is total of 5 different shows.
This will be cellist Choi Ha-young’s first concert in South Korea after she won t he competition. In order to deliver the realistic experience of the Elizabeth Competition which was held in Brussels in Belgium both cellist will perform the pieces they have competed with in Elizabeth Competition in forms of duo, orchestral set up and more various unique ways.
Throughout the pre-concert interview with the concert planning agency, Choi Ha-young stated “Throughout the tour in Belgium I became a good friends with cellis Yibai Chen, also I am very excited to perform with pianist Leibrecht Vanbeckevoort who is also expected to perform a solo concert in Belgium.”
“I hope to leave a great impression to South Korean audiences through unique and fresh interpretation of the music since it’s my first time visiting South Korea.” Chinese cellist Yibai Chen stated throughout the interview.
When asked about the changes since the Queen Elizabeth Competition, Choi Ha-young stated “I was awarded with an opportunity to have try out the projects that I have always wanted to. And I am greatly thankful for such an opportunity.” adding “From Bach’s Cello Suite No.1 in G Major to recently debuted producer’s pieces I am very thankful to be part of various projects.”
Cellist Choi Ha-young gets her artistic inspiration from not only listening to classical music, but also from opera, plays, musical or going to an art exhibition.
“If I had to pick someone that I admire the most I would pick pianist Andras Schiff who not only gave me lesions but also musically inspired me a lot and cellist Bernard Greenhouse. I like to learn and follow the footsteps of those who have made an impact in art industry in general. Hence I try to engage myself in various art activates such as musical, opera, art exhibition and more.” Choi Ha-young stated while disclosing her hope about finding a way use her talent to contribute to the world.
Moreover, “Throughout 8 years I have spent on studying in Germany I have tried my best to develop my unique musical identity. From now on I intend on looking forward to participate in activities as a cellist and find a way to contribute to the world by live my life as a musician.” stated Choi Ha-young throughout the interview.
