SEOUL, June 26 (Yonhap) – “I used to be unfortunate but now I wait for a chance. I do not believe in fortune.” (Yoo-mi’s line in drama “ANNA”)

A singer and actor SUZY showed more mature acting through playing a role of Yoo-mi, a character having Ripley syndrome, habitually lying to hide her unfortunate aspects.

In the first and second episode of “ANNA,” released on the 24th by Coupang Play, an ambitious girl Yoo-mi started lying after frustrating at her poor family circumstances.

It was childish remarks of Hyun-joo (Jung Eun-chae), a wealthy director of gallery, that aroused a sense of deficiency of Yoo-mi, which she struggled to calm down.

Yoo-mi, who failed to overcome the relative deprivation, finally ran away after stealing Hyun-joo’s money, passport, and a certificate of academic degree.

After changing her name into Anna, deceiving the past including her academic career, Yoo-mi succeeded to stand on the platform of a college and married a successful businessman Choi Ji-hoon (Kim Jun-han) without love.

At the end of the second episode, Hyun-joo recognized Yoo-mi who lives a life of Anna, arousing the curiosity of next episodes.

SUZY received favorable comments for acting Yoo-mi, including a childish moment pestering her father to let her do ballet, and a daring moment of telling her pseudo parents she hired for a family meeting that their clothes were terrible.

Showing up as an actress for the first time in 2 years after drama “Start-Up,” SUZY showed more mature acting. “ANNA” is expected to be the work which will strengthen her position as an actress.

Since “ANNA” holds a calm mood overall, it might have given a boring impression, but SUZY’s detailed facial expression acting increased a sense of immersion into the drama.

In particular, the emotion through her eyes was well expressed at the scene when Yoo-mi was insulted by a gallery staff, which well explained how Yoo-mi changed into Anna. Also, the real self of Anna, Yoo-mi, makes the viewers cheer her fake life as Anna.

“ANNA” has a total of six episodes, and is released every Friday at 8 p.m.
