SEOUL, June 7 (Yonhap) -- The Cultural Heritage Administration Royal Palaces and Tombs Center announced on the 7th that it will be operating a tour program, "Wangneung Cheonjaeng," a travel program that tours the royal tombs and the historical sites of the Joseon Dynasty. It will be operated 23 times from 13th June till the 7th of November.
The first tour for the royal tombs this year will be divided into "The path of King Yeongjo" with the theme of royal love, "The Path of King Danjong" where one will be able to sympathize the yearning feelings, "The path of Jeongjo," where it focuses on King Jeongjo and Crown Prince Sado, "The Forest road of the Kings," with the theme of eternity and "The path of the Kings and Emperors," where one will be able to learn about the history of the late Joseon Dynasty and the Korean Empire.
Participants for "The path of King Yeongjo" will be visiting Seooreung (The Five Tomb Sites of the Joseon Royal Family), Goyang, Gyeonggi province and Soryeongwon, Paju. In Seooreung, there is the Hongneung Royal Tomb, the tomb of Queen Jeongseong who was the royal first consort of King Yeongjo, and Sugyeongwon Royal Tomb, Goyang, the royal concubine of the 21st King Yeongjo of the Joseon Dynasty. In the Soryeongwon Royal Tomb, there is the tomb of Choe Sukbin, a royal concubine of King Sukjong, the 19th king of the Joseon Dynasty, and the mother of King Yeongjo, the 21st king of the Joseon Dynasty.
Participants for "The Path of King Danjong" will tour Jangneung, the tomb of Danjong, the 6th king of the Joseon dynasty, in Yeongwol, Gangwon province, and will look around Cheongnyeongpo and Gwanpungheon. On the other hand, the main destinations of "The Path of King Jeongjo" are the Changgyeonggung Palace and Changdeokgung Palace in Seoul, along with Yunggeolleung (Yungneung and Geolleung) in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi province. Yunggeolleung houses the royal tomb of Crown Prince Sado (Yungneung) and King Jeongjo (Geolleung).
"The Forest road of the Kings," was organized to visit Donggureung (East Nine Royal Tombs), the largest cluster of Joseon Dynasty royal tombs in South Korea, while ""The path of the Kings and Emperors," is scheduled to tour around Gwangneung Royal Tomb of King Sejo in Namyangju, Gyeonggi province and Hongneung and Yureung Royal Tombs where Emperor Gojong (Hongneung) and Emperor Sunjong (Yureung) is buried.
Participants will be able to listen to various stories related to the royal tombs of the Joseon Dynasty from a professional commentator and also enjoy a variety of performances. Some programs will even offer the benefit of visiting the royal tombs of the Joseon Dynasty on the day it closes.
For the first event of "The path of King Yeongjo" held on the 13th, it will be accompanied by Professor Shin Byung-ju, a researcher on the history of the Joseon Dynasty at Konkuk University.
Each program will consist of around 20-40 people. The participation fee is 30,000won for adults and 20,000 won for children and adolescents. In case of heavy rain, the event may be canceled.
