SEOUL, June 8 (Yonhap) -- The Cultural Heritage Administration Royal Palaces and Tombs Center announced on the 8th that it will be holding a cultural event where it will visit three Jeongjagak (T shaped building) in Donggureung, Guri on the 9th.
Jeongjagak is a building in the shape of a "T" when viewed from above. In Donggureung, there are three treasures including Geonwonneung Tomb where King Taejo Lee Seong-gye is buried, Mokneung, where King Seonjo, Queen Uiin, and Queen Inmok are sleeping together, and Seongneung Jeongjagak, the tomb of King Hyeonjong and Queen Myeongseong.
The Jeongjagak of Geonwonneung is evaluated as an example that shows the typical shape of the Jeongjagak for the royal tombs during the Joseon Dynasty, while Moknueung Jeongjagak is characterized by being a multi-story building in which a Gongpo (a structure made to support the roof) is placed between pillars.
Seongneung Jeongjagak is the only jeongjagak with an octagonal roof among the tombs of the Joseon Dynasty. The Paljak roof is a roof style that is often used for high-level buildings.
Participants will be able to listen to the commentary by Jo In-sook, a member of the ICOMOS (International Council on Monuments and Sites) and an archaeological researcher, and look at Jeongjagak while enjoying the traditional music.
Although the recruitment of participants has been completed, one will be able to individually tour the Donggureung Jeongjagak.
