SEOUL, September 29 (Yonhap) -- "The charm of the drama was its tackiness. There were ridiculously funny parts in which the scene could go too deep."
Jung Il-woo who had an interview at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul on September 27, before the broadcast of the last episode of the ENA drama "Good Job," chose tackiness as the charm of the drama.
The drama "Good Job" depicts the story of Eun Seon-woo (played by Jung il-woo), the CEO of the Eunkang group, who works secretly as a detective trying to find the truth regarding his parents' death with Don Se-ra (Kwon Yu-ri).
Jung Il-woo disguised himself as a white-haired old man, a Korean American gambler, a high school student, a cleaner, and many more to hide his identity in the scene, and this brought up the fun of the show.
It was the first time Jung Il-woo showed these images of himself to the audience, starting from an ill-mannered Korean American gambler who flips his hair behind his neck to a white-haired old man, bending his back, breathing heavily.
Jung Il-woo said, "I also came up with some ideas about the concept" and added, "I thought about Tom Cruise from the movie "Mission Impossible" for the old man and Brad Pitt from the movie "Ocean's Eleven" for the long-haired Korean American."
He continued, "I chose this drama because I could show different aspects of myself by disguising," "It's such a shame that I couldn't disguise for every single episode."
Jung Il-woo said that he considers the characters' variety while choosing his work.
Jung Il-woo played a role in depicting the romance of a 3rd generation chaebol (rich family) in the drama "Cinderella with Four Knights" (2016), a historical drama "Haechi" (2019), a romantic comedy drama in "Sweet Munchies" (2020), and a desperate romantic drama "Bossam: Steal the Fate" (2021). Jung Il-woo played in a comedy drama after a long time in the recent drama "Good Job."
"I was really longing for something new after 'High Kick.' I get sick of things really easily, and I don't like playing the same characters continuously. That is also why I went back and forth between contemporary and historical pieces."
Jung Il-woo said that the actor's charm is being able to play various characters.
He said, "I could never steadily do what my parents asked me to do," and continued, "but I don't get sick of acting because I can meet new characters for every different show."
It has already been 17 years since Jung Il-woo started acting, but he said that he still has so many characters he hasn't tried, and said that he really wants to play a villain.
Jung Il-woo said, "I want to play a villain with a plot twist or a psychopath," and hoped, " These days, OTT (online streaming platforms) has a lot of strong genres, so I want to challenge such a work, too."
"I don't think an actor should settle for one character. Actors have to have a variety of colors to have a long-term career. I think acting for a limited character is not for me, and I think that way, the audience would want to see me act again and again."
