Will NewJeans Bring Excitement After Jamboree Controversy?

SEOUL, Aug. 8 (Yonhap) -- After many controversies from its planning, the “2023 Saemangeum World Scout Jamboree” is now drawing attention for its highlight event, the “K-Pop Super Live” concert, industry sources said on Tuesday.

The South Korean Jamboree organizing committee is seriously considering holding the much-awaited K-pop concert at Seoul's Sangam World Cup Stadium on Friday, according to broadcasting and performance industry sources. The event is expected to feature some top-notch K-pop artists, including globally followed NewJeans.

The K-pop girl group is expected to take the stage at this concert as its former schedule, KBS's “Music Bank,” originally scheduled to be held on the same day, has been canceled.

The quintet has been gaining attention after their comeback last week with their second mini-album, “Get Up.”

The album reached the top of the 'Billboard 200' chart and all of its title tracks entered the Hot 100 main singles chart.

It is the first time for a K-pop girl group to place three or more songs on the Hot 100 simultaneously.

Other artists who were originally scheduled to appear on the cancelled “Music Bank” might also have a high possibility of participating in the concert.

An industry insider stated, "I heard that the artists who were supposed to appear on 'Music Bank' will now be performing on the 'K-Pop Super Live' stage," adding that the official lineup will be announced soon.

The “K-Pop Super Live” concert was originally scheduled to take place on an outdoor stage in Saemangeum on Sunday. But its date and venue were changed to Jeonju World Cup Stadium on upcoming Friday due to concerns about heatstroke from excessive heat and other inclement on-site conditions.

However, Typhoon Kajun, or Typhoon No. 6, is now predicted to change its course to the west, passing over the Saemangeum campsite, which led to a reconsideration of the concert's venue, likely to be the Sangam World Cup Stadium.

According to the original plans, IVE, ZEROBASEONE, NMIXX, and others were supposed to perform on the concert stage. However, due to the schedule change, it remains uncertain whether they will still be able to participate in the concert.

There were also speculations that globally popular BTS and Psy, who led the popularity of K-pop with the past hit "Gangnam Style," might participate. But their performances in the Friday concert also seem challenging due to their schedules.
