Mongolian traditional festival ‘Naadam Festival’ to be held in Seoul on Sept. 4

SEOUL, August 26 (Yonhap) -- Corporation Mongolia Ulaanbaatar culture agency announced on Friday that “Seoul Mongolia Naadam Festival” will be held at International Mongolia School in Seoul on Sept. 4.

The festival was prepared to celebrate Mongolian’ biggest holiday and one of UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity “Naadam Festival” and to promote cultural exchanges between Korea and Mongolia.

Mogolia ambassador Erdenetsogt Sarantogos and commissioner of Gwangjin-gu ofice Kim Young-ho will offer congratulatory remarks for the event, while director Im Eun-bin and Yoo Hae-hun will give a welcome speech.

Mongolian traditional song and dance and mongolian traditional instrument Morin khuur will be performed for special stage.

Mongolian traditional wrestling, arm wrestling competition, Mongolian traditional archery competition, children horse riding, and song competition will be hosted.

Experiencing traditional Mongolian housing and tasting traditional food will also be available.

This festival, which began in 2001 to help Mongolian settle well in S.Korea and to understand each countries better, marks its 22nd anniversary this year

Cultural agency official said, “I hope 37,000 mongolian who currenly live in S.Korea have self-confidence in their own culture.”
