Jin, the eldest brother of the group, announced on the 17th that he would cancel his enlistment and announced his enlistment. This single is his official solo debut and his last new song before enlistment.

Jin said, "I always greeted the members, so I am little shy and nervous to do it alone,” adding, “I had few solo songs such as song made to celebrate my birthday, a song for fans, and some on BTS album, but this is the first time a single album with my name has been released, so I'm very nervous and excited."

He said, "I came to feel the importance of the members once again while preparing for this solo single.”

"I hope many people like it since It is a song I prepared thinking of my fans,” adding, “I made the song hoping that the listener feels happy when listening to this song,” emphasized Jin."

“The Astronaut” is a song that shows Jin's charm as a vocalist, and features a refreshing and dreamy atmosphere.

Jin, regarding the new song, said, "It's a song in which the gentle melody of an acoustic guitar and synthesizer sound are attractive,” adding, “I wrote down my feelings, about how I am thankful to ARMYs for making me as BTS’ Jin.”

The song's music video was shot in the United States.

"You can see me making a crash landing on Earth," he said of the video. "It's about the journey of an astronaut who has to return to his home planet but eventually decides to remain on Earth, where his loved ones and precious things exist."

British Rock band Coldplay has participated in the project as a co-writer of the music and lyrics as well as a player. This is a collaborative song in a year with the band since the BTS single, "My Universe," which topped the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart upon its release in September last year.

Jin said, "I was happy and thrilled the whole time I was working with Coldplay because I really like them.(Coldplay) is a lot of people I like, so it was fun and thrilling to be able to make a relationship once again."

He mentioned, “You will be able to see a new side of me in the music video,” adding, “You will also enjoy the special appearance of Chris Martin in the video.

Jin also talked about behind-the-scenes stories about the new song at a Weverse live.

He said, "The original lyrics was not this; first verse was in Korean and the second was in English,” adding, “but before filming, Chris said korean version was better so I spent the whole night writing in Korea.”

He also said that he had a hard time not modifying the feeling of Martin, which he pre-recorded.

Jin said, "I thought I should not just change the mood so I followed his,” adding, “The song became similar to the guide version when I mixed a little bit of Korean trot style, which was popular in 1980-1990.”
