SEOUL, July 23 (Yonhap) -- “It was so amazing to see myself on Netflix, when drama started with ‘Ta-dum,’ the Netflix intro sound. My son also seemed to be interesting when he saw his mom on Netflix.”

Actress Cha Ji-yeon, who made a first step in Over The Top (OTT) media service through Netflix series ‘REMARRIAGE & DESIRES,” commented as above when asked about how she feels about participating in the drama, during the online interview held on the 22th.

Cha Ji-yeon, a representative musical actress of South Korea, debuted with ‘Lion King’ in 2006, and has played leading roles in musical plays including ‘AIDA,’ ‘WICKED,’ ‘Rebecca,’ and ‘The Bridges of Madison County.’

It was a big news in content industry that Cha will appear in dramas of OTT service. In fact, it is not the first time that Cha appeared in drama. She appeared in ‘Scent of a Woman’ as a supporting actor and also participated in drama ‘Taxi Driver’ last year.

Cha Ji-yeon said that since drama, in which actors need to act in front of cameras, is different from musical stages, she could learn many things such as the ability to concentrate.

Cha said, “In musical stages, we spend a long time trying to keep in tune with co-actors, but in dramas, we do not have enough time for that,” adding, “Hence, there is a great sense of immersion when actors are gathered, and I learned how important this is in drama field.”

In addition, Cha said, “It was great to see Kim Hee-seon immediately focusing on the role when the camera rolls.”

In ‘REMARRIAGE & DESIRES,’ Cha Ji-yeon plays Choi Yoo-sun, a CEO of marriage agency Rex. Choi Yoo-sun is a cold-hearted character who has an insight into a person’s desire.

Cha explained, “Choi Yoo-sun is good at penetrating a person’s mind and is a strategist who doesn’t stand on either side for her own goal,” illustrating, “I tried to hide expressions on face when acting, in order to prevent the character’s feelings or plans from being predicted.”

Moreover, she said, “Since I thought Choi Yoo-sun is a character who needs every calculation in her pocket, I tried to maintain attitudes in steady pattern, even a direction of a pen,” adding, “I wanted to express the character who does not tolerate even a minimal disorder, so I even cared about every hair and fingertips when acting.”

Due to her sophisticated urban image as an actress, Cha Ji-yeon mainly played roles with charisma in dramas and movies. In ‘Taxi Driver,’ she acted a god mother of underground economy, and played Jang Nok-su in movie ‘The Treacherous.’

Cha said, “I like the strong characters but there are also soft and shy images existing inside me,” confessing, “I would like to act a daily and comfortable character in my next work.”

Then, she said, “I want to participate in human genres such as ‘Our Blues’ which ended recently, and also challenge myself to play motherly character such as ‘Lee Shin-ae’ in movie ‘Secret Sunshine,’ and also a guard warrior character who protects the princess in history drama.

Cha Ji-yeon, called as a ‘Goddess of musical,’ revealed that she now wants to meet audiences through dramas and films as well.

“I’ve tried various roles in diverse musical stages. I would like to expand my acting field from now on.”
