SEOUL September 26, (Yonhap) -- South Korean drama about the ambition of individual family members within the judicial circle “The Empire: Empire of Law” provided by the broadcasting provider JTBC started off its journey with over 2 percent overall viewing rate.
According to the data provided by the Neilson Korea, South Korean Television Audience Measurement, first episode of “The Empire: Empire of Law” which aired at 10:30 p.m. on September 25 recorded 2.4 percent overall viewing rate.
Throughout the first episode, family of character Han Hye-ryul acted by S.Korean actress Kim Sun-a also known as the judicial royal family was introduced to the audience.
Prosecutor Han Hey-ryul showed off her charisma by simply ignoring the rumors related to how she is relying on a person looking out for her from the back. Also protagonist Na Geun-woo acted by Ahn Jae-wook, the professor at a law school and the husband of Han Hye-ryul shocked the audience by getting engaged in an affair with his student Hong Nan-hee acted by Joo Se-bin.
Grand father figure of Han Hye-ryul and the leader of the household, previous chief justice of the Supreme court Ham Min-Heon acted by Shin Goo, lives happily with a very young wife, Lee Ae-heon acted by Oh Hyun-kyung treated his family members very authoritatively. Mother figure of Han Hye-ryul and the director of the Law school, Ham Kwang-jeon acted by Lee Mi-sook tried her best to keep the family’s name value and their pride at work and at home as well.
Towards the end of the episode, a mysterious dead body appears near the lake, which made audiences wonder who in the family might be related to the incident.
“The Empire: Empire of Law” focused on shining light on the greed and ambition hidden behind the pride and nave value of the top one percent of the profession such as lawyers, professor of law school, prosecutor and more.
However, throughout the episode, it showcased, affairs, show window family, and generic trait of the family gone bad, therefore it provided dejavu.
Although the bed scene and the kissing scene featured throughout the first episode is to create a tension throughout the drama, it seemed like the drama was leading into provocative factors, and some of the critics stated the fact the whole family started talking in English during the family dinner, seemed little bit out of the reach.
Since the main story of the drama has not been started, audiences are interested on how “The Empire: Empire of Law” is planning on unfolding the story showcasing the greed and ambition of wealthy top one percent.
