Seoul Arts Center to host various concerts to celebrate 30th anniversary of opening

SEOUL February 11 (Yonhap) --  Seoul Art Center will be showcasing stages of violinist Chung Kyung-wha, Christoph Eschenbach, Kim Bomsori, Rafal Blechacz and more of the well known figures within classical music scene in order to celebrate its 30th anniversary of its opening.

The first stage which will take place on February 14 will be performed by a duo, a world well known violinist Chung Kyung-wha, and pianist Keven Kenner.

Both musicians who have worked with one another since 2011 as a duo, will perform Edvard Hagerup Grieg’s “Violin Sonata No.3 in C minor,” Johann Jakob Brahms’ “Violin Sonata No. 1 in G Major,” and Franck’s “Violin Sonata in A Major.” All three of the pieces are often played by violinist Chung Kyung-wha, and this will be the duo’s first performance together in three years. The concert is already fully booked therefore seats for the choirs will open on Feb 8 at 2 p.m.

On the actual day of the anniversary February 15, one of the greatest conductors from Germany Christoph Eschenbach will perform on stage alongside KBS Symphony Orchestra

Director Christoph Eschenbach who is currently working with Konzerthaus Berlin will be performing Gustav Mahler’s “Symphony No. 2 in C Minor,” the piece took over 7 years for the composer to create which incorporate’s composer’s understanding and thought of life and death through over 90 minutes of continuous harmony, solo performances, and more. This piece is often known to provide the audience with very interesting and unique experience as far as the music keeps the audience on their toes and throughout the session. Throughout the fourth and fifth movement, soprano singer Lee Myung-joo and mezzo soprano singer Yang Song-mi will perform their solo verses.

On February 22, violin piano combo Kim Bomsori and Rafal Blechacz will take the stage. The duo will perform violin sonatas of Beethoven and Brahams, Mozart and Karol Szymanowski.

Moreover, on February 24,Korean National Symphony Orchestra under the direct of Kim Kwang-hyun will perform various tracks.
Soprano singer Park Mi-ja, Lee Myung-joo Hwang Soo-mi, tenor Kim Woo-kyung, Jung Ho-yoon, baritone Kang Hyung-kyu and more of the well globally known singers will perform various tracks from well known ones to modern tracks.

CEO of the Seoul Arts Center Jang Hyung-joon addressed “2023, is an important year because it commemorates the 30th anniversary of the opening of Seoul Arts Center and to plan out 30 more years of continuous success” adding “Therefore we have prepared various events to suit the needs of the audiences with various needs.”

Seoul Arts Center opened up its music, concert hall and Korean Calligraphy museum in 1988 and opened up Hangaram Art Museum in 1990 and later on opened up the opera house in 1993.

The celebratory program of 30th anniversary will continue on throughout the year.

In March Violinist Christian Tetzlaff will perform his recital on March 8, duo recital of cellist Choi Ha-young and pianist Son Jung-beom will take place on March 29, Pianist Baek Hye-seon’s piano recital is planned on April 11 and more.
