SEOUL, May 15 (Yonhap) -- K-pop groups BabyMonster and TREASURE recently opened a series of pop-up stores across major Chinese cities, drawing strong turnout from local fans, their agency YG Entertainment said Thursday.
According to the agency, BabyMonster has been operating pop-up stores themed around its first full-length album DRIP in Shanghai since May 9 and in Shenzhen since May 10.
“The pop-up stores were located in the central lobbies of large shopping malls with high foot traffic among people in their 20s to 40s,” YG said. “Images of BabyMonster were wrapped around subway passageways, mall entrances, and glass railings on the pop-up floor, demonstrating the group’s growing presence in the Chinese market.”
Over 100 different merchandise items were sold at the sites, including the DRIP album, official world tour goods, a first anniversary photobook, photocards, zip-up hoodies, and knit hats. Several items sold out quickly, prompting restocks in the second and third rounds.
The pop-up stores were bustling with fans over the opening weekend, with visitors ranging from parents video-calling with their children to purchase goods on their behalf, to students stopping by after school in their uniforms, YG said.
TREASURE also opened its first-ever pop-up stores in Shanghai and Wuhan recently. Fans took photos with heart-shaped balloons representing the group’s latest release PLEASURE, responding enthusiastically to the themed experience.
“Beyond pop-up stores, we plan to connect with fans through fan meetings, concerts, and other various events,” the agency added.
