SEOUL, Oct. 25 (Yonhap) -- The National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage will host an exhibition under the theme of "Dokdo Island Natural Reserve" at the Natural Heritage Center in Daejeon. This exhibition is held in association with the National Institute of Biological Resources, Dokdo Museum, and Northeast Asian History Foundation to honor "Dokdo Day," which falls on Oct. 25.

The Dokdo exhibition, which will be held until Dec. 31, will display the island's history with ancient maps and the present through miniature samples of organisms currently living on the island while also showing various video clips and photos about the future of Dokdo.

The section on Dokdo Island's history includes the "Map of Joseon Kingdom," which was an ancient map shown by Spain's senate library to South Korean President Moon Jae-in during his visit to the library in Madrid on June 16, 2021. Different historical documents that show Dokdo as Korea's territory and with records of the surrounding sea labeled as 'Donghae,' which refers to East Sea in Korean, will also be presented.

In terms of animal specimens, various natural monuments such as black wood pigeons and fairy pitta birds will be exhibited. This is the first time for black wood pigeon specimens to be released for the public.

Visitors will also be able to view Dokdo Island promotional videos possessed by the Cultural Heritage Administration and Dokdo Museum as well as animation videos produced by the Northeast Asian History Foundation.

In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the number of visitors allowed inside the exhibition is limited to seven. From Nov. 2, online exhibitions will also be held on the official websites of the National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage and the Natural Heritage Center.
