SEOUL August 22 (Yonhap) -- South Korean Over The Top content provider Coupang Play sent out their apology to director Lee Joo-young for their one sided edit of drama “Anna.”
Director Lee Joo-young’s legal representative law firm Siwoo announced that “On August 19 Coupang Play’s general manager gave out sincere and truthful apology regarding the incident related to ‘Anna.’”
Moreover, the general manager of Coupang Play continued throughout the secretive meeting with director Lee Joo-young “We have deleted director Lee Joo-young and 6 of staff members who share thoughts with her, and we will make sure to prevent something like this from happening ever again” announced law firm Siwoo.
Apology of Coupang Play was given under the arbitration of Directors Guild of Korea, at a secretive meeting held between Coupang Play and director Lee Joo-young.
Previously director Lee Joo-young claimed that originally “Anna” was scripted to air 8 episodes, however through different editing crew and staffs Coupangplay tampered with the work through unilateral edit.
Moreover, director Lee Joo-young asked Coupang Play to delete his name from the credit of “Anna” which premiered on July 6, and a sincere apology from Coupang Play. Also he requested to release director’s edition of “Anna” which includes all 8 episodes director Lee Joo-young originally created.
Coupang Play claimed that they have asked director Lee Joo-young to edit certain parts of the episodes but director declined; therefore Coupang Play have edited it accordingly to their original intention.
Director’s cut of “Anna” was released on to Coupang Play in August 12.
