SEOUL, August 6 (Yonhap) -- Directed by Oh Seung-wook, the film "Revolver" begins with former detective Soo-young (played by Jeon Do-yeon) being released from prison after serving a two-year sentence for taking the fall for police corruption. Soo-young accepted imprisonment in exchange for a promised reward, but no one intends to keep their word to her now that she has become almost invisible in society. Fueled by rage, Soo-young takes life-threatening actions to reclaim what is rightfully hers.
"While filming scenes where Soo-young demands people keep their promises, I often asked the director, 'Isn't this boring?' because it felt repetitive. But when I watched the movie, I realized each character Soo-young meets brings a new layer to the scenes. It felt like a new way of building scenes," Jeon Do-yeon shared during an interview at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Seoul, on the 5th.
Set to hit local cinema on the 7th, "Revolver" is a film driven by Jeon Do-yeon's performance. Her face, filling the screen, displays an extreme coldness and deep anger. Jeon also starred in Oh's previous film "The Shameless" (2015), which was invited to the 68th Cannes Film Festival, earning critical acclaim.

Reading the script for "Revolver," Jeon worried it might feel similar to "The Shameless." "I was concerned about how to differentiate Soo-young from Hye-kyung," she said. Although "Revolver" doesn't have many action scenes, Soo-young is a former kendo player, allowing Jeon to showcase her action skills, reminiscent of her intense action in the Netflix film "Kill Boksoon" (2023).
Jeon Do-yeon found action difficult during "Kill Boksoon," but gained confidence in her action skills while filming "Revolver." She laughed, "Now I think I can do action scenes better."
"Revolver" is enriched by characters like Andy (Ji Chang-wook), a powerful figure in an investment company opposing Soo-young, and Yoon-sun (Lim Ji-yeon), whose ambiguous role as either Soo-young's watcher or ally adds complexity to the story. Lee Jung-jae, in a special appearance, also delivers a weighty performance.

"I was grateful to hear Lim Ji-yeon was cast. Every casting announcement felt surprising. I think we created a film where actors could fully unleash their performances," Jeon praised.
She and Lim Ji-yeon deliberated over their characters' ambiguous relationship, but a scene where Yoon-sun tells Soo-young, "I'm only this much on your side," resolved their concerns. "I loved that scene. Ji-yeon did a great job," Jeon complimented.

Jeon Do-yeon is busier than ever, having recently returned to the theater with "The Cherry Orchard" after 27 years, and being cast in the Netflix drama "The Price of Confession."
Reflecting on her busy schedule, Jeon said, "Although I regretted joining 'The Cherry Orchard,' the time on stage was healing. I learned that a happy heart can overcome difficulties." She also mentioned helping her daughter with a short film project, laughing about staying up late to film at a playground.
Unlike other stars, Jeon doesn't share her daily life on social media. "I don't have a special taste or activities to share. I want to connect with the audience through my work as an actor," she said.
Known as the "Queen of Cannes" for winning Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival for "Secret Sunshine" (2007), Jeon concluded, "I now hope that my work is loved more than receiving personal awards. That's my biggest wish and desire."
