SEOUL October 12 (Yonhap) -- “One of the best and easiest way to relieve stress is to get engaged in a dark themed concept. Also There is a dance move where we vigorously roll our feet, which makes us happy again even when we are mad.” Adding “I feel like Dreamcatcher are the ones who successfully explored and adapted the dark genre of K-pop for the first time there for we fell very satisfied.” addressed Gahyeon during the joint interview for K-pop girl group Dreamcatcher on October 12.


Dreamcatcher originally debuted under the name of MINX in 2014 as five member girl group, with the title of “Dal Shabet’s younger sister group” and sporty concept; however they had hard time attracting the audience.

After the group MINX got defunct members drafted Gahyeon and Handong and re debuted as Dreamcatcher showcasing a polar opposite genre from MINX attracting audiences interest.

Girl group Dreamcatcher paints their music in a unique somewhat odd within the industry which has been divided into two significant themes, being cute or being courageous.

K-pop idol market which heavily deals with Hip-hop based tracks, Dreamcatch successfully segmented themselves as a girl group which deals with Rock music, showcasing their significant color.

“There was a content where random people who are not aware of us gets asked who we are by just listening to our voices, when they heard that this girl group has a dark theme, people immediately guessed correctly who we were.” announced JiU during the interview.

Moreover, Siyeon stated “Being part of MINX was probably the hardest time of my life.” adding “It was hard for me to act out being cute, however as I transferred into being a member of Dreamcatcher felt like wearing a proper suited clothes, therefore I love Dreamcatcher.”

“The benefit of having a dark concept is that it solidifies and delivers our messages very firmly.” described Yoohyeon, and SuA stated the benefit of having a dark themed genre as “Dark Theme has its unique vibe.”

Following the heavy topic embedded within Dreamcatcher’s previous album “Apocalypse : Save Us” group has returned with the, embedded meaning related to environment through their seventh mini album “Apocalypse : Follow Us” which is considerably as heavy as their previous topic.

Starting with the title track “Vision” the album includes track “Fairytale” which is an alternative rock genre of music, “Some Love” which embodies the message of loving oneself is very important, “When this rain stops” and more.

The title track vision embodies dream catcher’s vision of fighting off those who destroy the nature in order to create a place where all living creatures can live happily. The track consists of mixture of dark techno, electronic and metal rock music.

“If our previous title track ‘Maison’ is a warning to those who destroy the environment, our latest title track is about us fighting off the evil because they did not listen to Dreamcatcher’s warning.” adding “The title track withholds our vision and ambition.” described JiU during the joint interview for their seventh mini album.

Dreamcatcher topped South Korean music show for the first time in 5 years in 2022, and is invited to the music festival “Primavera Sound” happening in Spain.
The group will kick off their tour in Europe starting in Germany followed by Netherlands, Poland, England, France and more.

When asked of their next goal, Handong of Dreamcatcher stated “We would love to take the stage in the end of the year music festival which gets broadcasted every year. Since our music is so good, I feel like we would be able to vibe with the audience very well.”
