SEOUL January 17 (Yonhap) -- For the first exhibition of 2023, Leeungno Art Museum located within Daejeon city will be showcasing the exhibition “New Style Lee Eungno” on Tuesday.
The exhibition will be focusing on the paintings artist Lee Eung-no finished between 1960s to 1970s when he experienced astronomical changes within his ideologies, surroundings, and the way he paints.
Daejeon Goam Art & Culture Foundation currently withholds 62 of the paintings done by Lee Eung-no. Out of 62 of the pieces, foundation has a self portrait drawn by the artist while he was in prison.
Painter Lee Eung-no who was active in France back in 1958 successfully took in the characteristics and ideology behind those who practiced infomel genre of painting through abstract pieces, continued to expand his art career formulating his own uniqueness.
Upcoming exhibition will be held under four various segments, the first exhibition will showcase the paintings produced during 1960s to 1970s, and in the second part of the exhibition visitors will be introduced to the abstract painting under the idea of “New Style” by artist Lee Eung-no who tried out for a new thing despite of his current situation in 1960s.
Moreover, in the third and fourth segment of the exhibition, visitors will be greeted with a self portrait done while he was incarcerated in 1967 because he was tricked by the North Korean spy who told Lee Eung-no that he can help to meet those who have been forced to stay behind in North Korea during Korean War. Also the segment will showcase sculptures Lee Eung-no created after 1969, when he returned back to France after being released under special pardon.
The art Exhibition will continue until April 2.
