London Korean Film Festival to be held next month...'Alienoid,' 'Hansan,' and special exhibition of Kang Soo-yeon

SEOUL, October 6 (Yonhap) -- 44 movies be screened and special exhibition of Kang Soo-yeon, the first world star in the Korean movie industry, will be held, showing her acting career in the U.k. 
 
The 17th London Korean Film Festival will start on November 3 and run until November 27, the Korean Cultural Centre UK announced on Thursday. 
 
Diverse Korean movies, starting from newly released ones to horror, documentaries, women, indie, short movies, and more, will be screened at 9 cinemas in London, Manchester, and Scotland. 
The opening film of the festival will be director Choi Dong-hun's "Alienoid," and the closing film will be director Kim Han-min's "Hansan: Rising Dragon."
 
Director Im Kwon-taek’s "The Surrogate Woman," which won her the Volpi Cup for Best Actress at the 44th Venice International Film Festival, "Come Come Come Upward," which won her the Best Actor award at the Moscow International Film Festival, and director Jang Seon-woo's "The Road to the Race Track," will be screened during the special exhibition. 
 
Kim Dong-ho, former executive chairman of the Busan International Film Festival, Kim Hong-joon, director of the Korea Film Archive, programmer Mark Morris, and Darcy Parquet, translator of the movie "Parasite," will be attending the forum for Kang Soo-yeon's special exhibition to reflect on her traces in Korean film history.
 
Moreover, the U.K. movie critic Anton Bitel will be introducing six popular movies, including movies such as Director Davy Chou's "Return to Seoul," which was invited to the Cannes Film Festival as an Official Selection, director Jung Ji-yeon's "Anchor," and director Chun Myung-Gwan's "Hot Blooded." 
 
Director Hirokazu Kore-eda's movie "Broker," which won actor Song Kang-ho the Best Actor award at the Cannes Film Festival, will also be premiered in the U.K. 
 
A total of six movies will be introduced, including "Gyeong-ah's Daughter" by director Kim Jeon-eun during the women's movie section, which was formed in 2016, and three movies will be introduced in the documentary section, including director Kim Dong-won's "The 2nd Repatriation."
 
The four indie movies to be introduced were selected by Darcy Paquet, and one of the selected movies is director Lee Ji-eun's "The Hill of Secrets," which was invited to the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival in the category of "Generation." 


Director Choi Dong-hoon, Kim Han-min, Jung Ji-yeon, and Kim Jeong-eun will be visiting the U.K. to have conversations with the audience and will be holding master classes at U.K. film schools such as the London Film Academy. 
 
Director Choi Dong-hoon's movie "The Thieves" is being screened at the Hallyu exhibition being held at the Victoria & Albert Museum. 


Lee Jung-woo, director of the Korean Cultural Center in the U.K., said, "While commemorating actor Kang Soo-yeon's achievements, we will try to raise interest regarding Korea's history by continuously screening movies such as "The Admiral: Roaring Currents," and "Hansan," which are movies about Admiral Yi Sun-sin, in the home land of Admiral Nelson, the hero of the Battle of Trafalgar.
