SEOUL, Feb. 25 (Yonhap) -- Olivia Marsh’s new song Backseat has come under scrutiny for alleged similarities to American singer Isaac Dunbar’s 2019 track Onion Boy.

Following the plagiarism claims, Marsh compared the two songs and acknowledged their resemblance. In response, she has added Dunbar’s name to the songwriting credits.

According to the music industry on Tuesday, Marsh’s agency, Amplify, stated, “We have reached an amicable agreement with Isaac Dunbar. We are currently handling all necessary procedures, including negotiating songwriting shares and updating credits, to ensure the original artist’s rights are protected.”

Marsh recently released her first mini-album Meanwhile on Feb. 13, featuring Backseat as one of its dual title tracks. Shortly after, Dunbar took to social media, claiming that the song bore striking similarities to Onion Boy, which he originally released in 2019.

After conducting a review, Marsh’s agency accepted Dunbar’s claims. His name has since been added to the composer credits on streaming platforms such as Melon.

Amplify stated, “After directly comparing both songs, we found merit in Isaac Dunbar’s claim. Moving forward, we will continue our work with transparency and respect for all creators.”

The agency further emphasized its commitment to preventing similar issues in the future. “We will thoroughly examine our internal system to ensure this does not happen again. We sincerely apologize to Isaac Dunbar and to the fans who may have been disappointed by this situation.”

Olivia Marsh, known as the older sister of NJZ (NewJeans) member Danielle, debuted as a singer in October last year. Her mini-album Meanwhile includes five tracks, including Backseat.
