SEOUL, April 2 (Yonhap) -- K-pop supergroup BTS released the music video for "2.0," a track from its fifth full-length album, at midnight Wednesday, its agency BigHit Music said on Thursday.
The video pays homage to director Park Chan-wook’s film "Oldboy," featuring the members’ playful acting, distinctive styling and direction that complements the song’s message.
In the opening scene, BTS appears in a worn-out elevator dressed in suits reminiscent of noir film protagonists.
Unexpected props and styling — including V with a beard, Jin holding a back scratcher, Jungkook with a traditional fan and Suga carrying a bamboo flute — add a humorous touch.
A sequence showing the members moving forward in sync with the music evokes the famous one-take corridor fight scene from "Oldboy."
In a confined space, the members hurriedly change outfits and, with the line "We’ve finally arrived," transform into the BTS familiar to fans.
They then perform throughout an abandoned building, signaling what they describe as the group’s second chapter.
"It feels like a video that showcases our evolved performance," BTS said. "As a work paying homage to a film, the filming process was also enjoyable."
"We especially remember dressing up as the 'old BTS' in the early part. We couldn’t stop laughing at each other during filming," they added.
"2.0" is a hip-hop and trap track featuring an unconventional rhythm, with lyrics reflecting the group’s growth and transition into a new phase.
The song conveys confidence through lines such as, "Like BTS, it’s not that easy / Who jumps over hurdles every day like we do."
"2.0" debuted at No. 50 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
