SEOUL, September 20 (Yonhap) -- "The most memorable reaction was, "Why is Im Yoona so good at acting? (laugh)."
In marking her 15th year since her debut, singer and actress Im Yonna is in her heyday, working on both films and dramas.
Yoona had an interview at the SM Entertainment building in Seongdong-gu, Seoul on September 19, to mark the end of the MBC drama "Big Mouth." She said, smiling, "I was exhausted because I worked nonstop, but the result made me forget all my tiredness."
The song "FOREVER 1," performed with the Girls' Generation members for the first time in five years, ranked 10th on Melon, the largest music streaming platform in Korea, and the action comedy "Confidential Assignment 2: International," in which Yoona played a supporting role, topped the weekend box office for two consecutive weeks.
Yonna played Ko Mi-ho, the female lead character in the drama "Big Mouth". The drama recorded a 10% view rate after six episodes and recorded a 13.7% view rate, the highest rate, in the last episode, gaining popularity.
Ko Mi-ho, who plays an active role in saving her husband, who was falsely accused and imprisoned, is an enterprising and active female character that is rare to be seen in genre dramas. Im Yoona successfully expressed a character who gives a sense of exhilaration with her bold charm and improvisation.
Im Yonna said, "Ko Mi-ho is a rightful person who is active and solves a problem in a wise way," and said, "I think the fact that the female character had this kind of personality was one of the reasons why the drama attracted so much love from the audience."
Ko Mi-ho, a nurse, defends herself with pepper spray, prepared in advance for the attacker who got into the elevator, defeats the inmates trying to kill her with a fire extinguisher and a syringe, and helps the inmates who couldn't evacuate themselves by going into the sinkhole collapse accident site. Im Yoona said, "Ko Mi-ho is braver than I am, but we have similarities."
"I get attracted to a role when the image inside me overlaps with the character. Miho and I have similar active personalities. After turning in to my 30s, I realized that I couldn't answer questions like what I liked to do and what I wanted to do, and I had time to look back. Afterwards, I was able to express my opinion better, and I think my personality started to change actively as those aspects piled up. "
In line with the expression of an active personality, Im Yoona showed different transformations through various experiences, challenging herself.
"Big Mouth" is Im Yoona's first noir. She explained the reason behind selecting the drama, saying, "Every time I choose a work, I try to show the audience new looks, and I thought it would be fresh and fun because it is a genre drama."
She said, "I have never played a character who has such a variety of emotions," and emphasized, "It was a special experience for me as well, and I think I've developed a lot through this drama."
Ko Mi-ho was left alone as her husband, Park Chang-ho (played by Lee Jong-seok), who was falsely accused of being a "Big Mouth," the biggest fraud, was imprisoned. Then later, she was told that he was killed, and she eventually died after being sentenced to a deadline.
Im Yonna said, "I tried to immerse myself, imagining and putting myself in Ko Mi-ho's shoes," and added, "I was really thankful and glad when the audience loved the scene when Ko Mi-ho was told that her husband died."
"It was always a bed of roses when I was just a member of Girls Generation. On the other hand, I don't think it was the same as being an actress. (Laugh) I haven't experienced much as an actor, but I think I am finally getting used to the actress title. I hope I can continuously show more of myself in the future. "
