SEOUL November 08 (Yonhap) -- South Korean public broadcasting service MBC and SBS discontinued their AM radio transmission starting on 8.
Through a notice both MBC and SBS addressed their discontinuation of radio programs by stating “The a.m. broadcasting station will be completely expired in six months, therefore listeners should redirect their frequency to 95.9M Hz for morning broadcasts.”
Although the AM broadcasts had strength of having wide reach rate therefore it was able to cover the mass with minimum amount of transmission, the quality of the audio is very low and it costs tremendous amount of money to maintain so a lot of broadcasting services have discontinued their AM broadcasts. Currently most of the companies are using FM frequencies.
Pohang MBC and Jeonju MBC, head quarter of CBS and Busan station, and KBS radio are some of the companies with AM transmission.
