SEOUL, August 14 (Yonhap) -- Boy group Infinite’s member Kim Sung-kyu will be leaving the musical “Kinky Boots” and musical actor Kim Ho-young will be joining the musical instead.
The production company CJ ENM released a press release on Saturday announcing that Kim Sung-kyu, who plays “Charlie,” will be leaving “Kinky Boots” to recover after his jaw surgery.
“According to the opinion of a specialist that said that sufficient treatment and recovery period is necessary, it was judged that it would be difficult for him to return within the performance schedule, which is why we had no choice but to announce that he would be leaving the musical,” said CJ ENM.
Infinite's Kim Sung-kyu suffered a jaw injury earlier this month and was hospitalized for treatment.
Kim Ho-young will be filling the vacancy of Kim Sung-kyu. Kim Ho-young has also participated in the 2016 and 2018 seasons of Kinky Boots.
“Kinky Boots,” which gained popularity with its colorful costumes and a unique character called “drag queen” (a male singer disguised as a female singer), opened at the Grand Theater of the Chungmu Art Center in Seoul on July 20 and will be performing until October 23.
This musical is about the story of “Charlie Price,” the president of a shoe company on the brink of bankruptcy, and the drag queen “Lola,” who together creates kinky boots for men dressing up as women to revive the company. This is the fifth season since it premiered in Korea as a licensed performance in 2014.
Lee Seok-hoon and Shin Jae-bum, along with Kim Ho-young, who joined this time, plays the role of Charlie, while Choi Jae-rim, Kang Hong-seok, Seo Kyungsoo plays the role of Lola.
