SEOUL, April 7 (Yonhap) -- The city of Suwon, Gyeonggi province, announced that it will get rid of the admission fee for the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Suwon Hwaseong Fortress” from the 7th of this month.
Since August 2005, Suwon has been receiving 1,000 won for the visitors of the Suwon Hwaseong Fortress except for the Suwon citizens.
However, because it was realistically too difficult to buy and sell tickets in an open facility like the Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, having a total length of 5.7km, the city has decided to get rid of the admission fee.
The entrance fee to Hwaseong Haenggung Palace is still maintained. The admission fee for the Hwaseong Haenggung Palace is 1,500 won for adults, 1,000 won for soldiers and teenagers, and 700 won for children.
Suwon City recently revised the “Suwon City World Heritage Hwaseong Operation Ordinance” with these details.
“With these changes, domestic and foreign tourists will be able to visit the Suwon Hwaseong Fortress without any burden” an official from Suwon city said. “Through the continuous promotional contents about the Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, we will do our best to tell the value of it to as many people as possible.”
