Gyeongju was the capital of the millennial kingdom of Silla that formed the first unified state on the Korean Peninsula.

There were 56 kings in total, and Wonseong was the 38th king of the dynasty and was naturally buried in Gyeongju. His tomb is called Gwaereung.

On the south side of the tomb, pairs of stone guardians protecting the king are arranged. Among them, the statue is still showing off its indomitable will even after 1,200 years have passed.
