SEOUL, Dec. 16 (Yonhap) -- NewJeans has opened a new social media account separate from their previous official profiles.
The group created an Instagram account "jeanzforfree" over the weekend. Former ADOR CEO Min Hee-jin liked their first post, drawing further attention. The members confirmed the account’s authenticity through videos shared on Instagram Stories.
Daniel reassured fans, saying, "It’s really us," while Minji greeted followers with, "We missed you." Hanni added, "We’ll meet here more often."
This move comes amid ongoing legal disputes between NewJeans and their former agency, ADOR. While the group claims their exclusive contract was terminated on November 29, ADOR maintains the contract is still valid and has filed a lawsuit to confirm its enforceability.
The creation of this new account is seen as a step towards establishing their independence following the claimed contract termination.
NewJeans gained attention for their gesture of providing meals to attendees of the impeachment rally for South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol in Seoul’s Yeouido district. The group prearranged dishes such as kimbap, dumpling soup, and samgyetang for protesters.
Anyone with a light stick, regardless of which artist they support, could receive meals under the name “Bunnies,” NewJeans' fandom moniker.
Minji commented, "Korea is so cold right now. We’ve prepared this so you can eat a warm meal. Please take care of yourselves and eat well."
