SEOUL, Aug. 19 (Yonhap) -- Korean crime thriller series "Black Out" debuted with a viewership rating in the 2% range, unraveling a story about a man accused of a mysterious murder.
According to Nielsen Korea on the 17th, the first episode of MBC's Black Out, which aired the previous day, recorded a viewership rating of 2.7%.
The drama begins with the discovery of a high school student who has been murdered and another who has gone missing. During the investigation, the police identify Go Jung-woo (played by Byun Yo-han), a classmate of the victims, as the prime suspect.
Go Jung-woo, who had planned to meet his friend Park Da-eun (played by Han So-eun) the day after taking the college entrance exam, loses contact with her. Meanwhile, Shim Bo-young (played by Jang Ha-eun) makes disparaging remarks about Da-eun to Jung-woo. Angered, Jung-woo drinks alone and eventually passes out. During this time, Da-eun is murdered, and Bo-young goes missing.
Although Jung-woo claims he remembers nothing due to his drunken state, blood-stained shoes are found in his home, leading to his conviction and a 10-year prison sentence.
After being released from prison, Jung-woo returns to his mother (played by Kim Mi-kyung), who runs a restaurant. However, the villagers treat him with cold disdain, and his mother urges him to repent and never return to the village.
The first episode concludes with a scene in which Jung-woo's mother falls from a building and lands on a car during a rainy night.
Based on a novel of the same name, Black Out immediately draws viewers in with a mysterious murder and disappearance, followed by the dramatic incident involving the protagonist's mother.
On the same day, SBS's drama Good Partner, starring Jang Na-ra and Nam Ji-hyun, achieved a viewership rating of 13.6%. Good Partner, which began airing last month, resumed on the 16th after a hiatus during the Olympics.
