SEOUL, Aug. 27 (Yonhap) -- "It's a new genre for me as well. But I'm confident 'Method Club' has a distinct style that will make it a hit," said Lee Soo-geun.

What if comedians were to teach acting to actors? The new KBS variety show "Method Club," which portrays comedians giving acting lessons in a mockumentary format, premiered on the 26th.

Comedian Lee Soo-geun, who plays one of the acting instructors, expressed his confidence during an online press conference on the same day, stating, "I'm looking forward to hearing people say it's been a long time since we've had such an entertaining variety show."

"Method Club," which boasts the tagline "Refreshing your acting with a provocative curriculum," features Lee Soo-geun, Lee Soo-ji, and Gwak Beom as acting coaches who offer tailored acting lessons to actors visiting their academy. The first episode's teaser featured actors like Jang Hyuk and Lee Moon-sik as students.

Lee Soo-geun shared that "Method Club" is a scripted variety show, adding, "It was my first time doing a script reading for a variety show, and the script was incredibly thick. We meticulously prepared and filmed based on what was written in the script."

He also revealed the intensity of the production process, saying, "We filmed for a whopping 19 hours in the studio on the first shoot. We made sure not to miss a single detail."

Lee Soo-ji, who also serves as an acting coach, mentioned that the biggest challenge was holding back laughter on set. "I rarely make mistakes because I think of NGs (no-good takes) as a result of insufficient practice, but it was so funny that I couldn't help it. We even had to stop filming for 20 minutes because we were laughing so much."

She added, "Although 'Method Club' is a mockumentary, the writers captured our real behind-the-scenes moments so well that it feels like a true documentary. I think it will also vividly capture the real personalities of the actors involved."

The show is directed by Lee Myung-seop, known for "Happy Together" Season 4 and "Hong Kim Dong-jeon."

Director Lee explained his choice of genre: "I felt that today's variety shows were becoming genre-biased, so I wanted to try something new, which led me to choose the mockumentary style."

He hinted at the show's unique appeal, saying, "There's a special charm and raw humor in the role reversal where comedians, who should be the ones learning, are teaching actors how to act, and actors, who usually receive warm welcomes, are treated indifferently."
