FM Cho meets Turkish counterpart, discusses developing bilateral relations
SEOUL, Jan. 21 (Yonhap) -- Foreign Minister Cho Hyun met with his Turkish counterpart Wednesday and discussed ways to develop bilateral relations, Cho's office said.
The meeting and luncheon between Minister Cho and Hakan Fidan, the Turkish foreign minister, comes amid Cho's four-day trip to the Middle Eastern country and Belgium, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Cho said President Lee Jae Myung's visit to Turkey in November served as an opportunity to solidify the two nations as "strategic partners" and urged for close cooperation in key bilateral projects, including nuclear, defense and bio.
In the area of nuclear, the two sides agreed to work toward the smooth conclusion of follow-up documents to a memorandum of understanding on the nuclear partnership signed last year.
They also discussed the potential participation of South Korean companies in future infrastructure projects in Turkey.
Additionally, the two ministers shared their views on other pending issues, such as the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, peace in Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East, including Syria and Iran.
