100 million won awarded to 3 people for reporting drug crimes
By Kim Han-joo
SEOUL, Jan. 10 (Yonhap) -- Three people received rewards totaling over 100 million won (US$75,800) for providing information leading to the conviction or arrest of individuals involved in illegal drug crimes, officials said Wednesday.
The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission said it marks the first time that cash rewards have been given to individuals for providing information related to narcotics crimes since the program's inception in 2016.
The anti-corruption agency said it has received a list of potential reward recipients from the prosecution and police and made the final decision through a deliberative process.
One of the informants, whose identity has been withheld, assisted the police in gathering information to intercept drug trafficking into the country, amounting to more than 20 billion won.
Another informant reported an acquaintance's attempt to bring in illegal drugs, ultimately leading to the criminal's conviction, according to officials.
