Gender ministry orders punitive measures against 130 parents for not paying child support
By Kim Hyun-soo
SEOUL, Dec. 14 (Yonhap) -- The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family said Thursday it has ordered punitive measures for 130 parents who failed to pay child support after divorcing their spouses.
A review committee under the ministry ordered the identity disclosure of five people on the ministry's website, banned 89 others from leaving the country and requested the driver's licenses of 36 people be suspended.
The number of people under disciplinary measures has jumped from 359 people in 2022 to 639 as of December this year.
The ministry said more parents had been paying off their debts since the introduction of the penalty system in July 2021, with 121 among the 504 people in total repaying their due amounts.
The next review committee is set to be hosted in February.
