Remains of ancient tombs with square frontage found
This photo taken Dec. 8, 2021, shows what is believed to be ancient burial mounds, square at the front and rounded at the rear, at an expressway construction site in Naju, South Jeolla Province, southwestern South Korea. Officials and archeologists from the Cultural Heritage Administration made an on-site examination of the site the same day. A burial mound with square frontage and a round rear, known to be a typical ancient tomb style in Japan, is called a "janggo" tomb, as it resembles the Korean traditional drum, janggo. The Naju municipality said it will hold consultations with the administration to conduct research aimed at finding out when the tombs had been built. (Yonhap)
