JCS vice chairman attends NATO Military Committee meeting in Belgium
SEOUL, Jan. 22 (Yonhap) -- The vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) attended a meeting of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization's (NATO) highest military committee in Belgium this week to boost cooperation, officials said Thursday.
Lt. Gen. Kwon Dae-won joined the NATO Military Committee's meeting in Brussels from Wednesday to Thursday, after the collective security bloc invited South Korea as an Indo-Pacific partner, according to the JCS.
Kwon met with Adm. Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, chair of the military committee, along with other senior military officials, to share thoughts on the current security conditions.
At a session set for Thursday, the vice chairman plans to assess the security situation on the Korean Peninsula and call for international cooperation to deal with security threats.
This year marks South Korea's 11th time participating in the meeting since 2010.
