Apache choppers are ready to take off at U.S. Camp Humphreys in Pyeongtaek, 60 kilometers south of Seoul, on Aug. 12, 2024. Earlier in the day, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff announced that South Korean and U.S. soldiers will conduct their annual Ulchi Freedom Shield exercise from Aug. 19-29 to strengthen their joint defense readiness in the face of evolving North Korean military threats.
